Soundscape Invitation

Ambience: wetlands dawn, Haw River State Park
Just as there are landscapes, there are soundscapes, too. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.

We’re listening to one of my favorite soundscapes, recorded by Douglas Quin. It’s dawn at a wetlands in Haw River State Park in North Carolina.

We are surrounded by sounds all the time. They are as much a part of our lives as the air we breathe.

I’d like to invite you to record and share some of the soundscapes in your neighborhood. It could be sounds of the environment, your home or community. Perhaps it’s a church bell or a music box, an old well pump or a spinning wheel. You can make a good recording with a smartphone if you get close to the action. Visit Americansoundscapes.com for more information. That’s Americansoundscapes.com. I look forward to hearing and sharing your recordings.

My thanks to Douglas Quin for sharing this remarkable soundscape. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.
