Some years ago, I was in California’s Anza-Borrego desert, as a member of film crew documenting Big Horn Sheep. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.
Big Horn Sheep can go for a long time without water, but sooner or later they need to take a drink. There are oases in the desert, replete with palm trees and bubbling brooks. I learned to my dismay that the white noise from streams and brooks masked any subtle sounds the sheep might make. But this particular water hole had a wonderful ambience, a soundscape worthy of your attention. So headphones on, picture yourself lying in a desert oasis in the shade of a palm tree.
