Mt. Lewis Wind

The Winds of Mount Lewis

The sounds of Mount Lewis in the Carbine Tablelands of Queensland, Australia. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.
Ambience Mt Lewis Wind, frogs
I was on Mount Lewis as part of an Earthwatch team headed by Scientist Steve Williams. He was studying the effects of global warming on local species. As their habitat warmed, they moved higher up on the mountain where it was cooler. When they could go no further and temperatures continued to climb, species went extinct.

I remember one day recording in a cloud forest near the top of Mount Lewis. There was a breeze and tree leaves rustled in the wind, punctuated by the sounds of frogs and insects. Headphones on, here it is.

Mount Lewis, Australia. I’ve got a new book coming out. Check out our website and Facebook page for details. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.
