Patriots Day – Old NorthAmbience: Bells of Old NorthThe bells of Boston’s Old North Church. Patriots Day in Boston celebrates the first skirmishes of the Revolutionary War. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the PlanetAmong the reenactments and events of Patriots Day is the Lantern Ceremony in Old North Church, which commemorates the famous ride of Paul Revere warning citizens that the British were coming. This was one of the first field recordings I made while living in Boston in the 1970s. Crowd singing “America the Beautiful”Pastor: Tonight, Sandra and Barbara Thomas, fifth generation descendants of Robert Newman, will come forward, will light these two lanterns and carry them down the aisle and up into the steeple.
