GiglioSince 1903, every July a Brooklyn New York neighborhood comes alive with the celebration of the Giglio, where a four ton 72 foot tower is carried and danced through the streets of Williamsburg by 100 men, accompanied by a marching band and witnessed by thousands of spectators. But in commemoration, here are some of the sounds of the celebration I recorded some years back.Ambience: band, cheer, shoutsMan’s Voice (Benny Mangone): The commands are, woyon, aja geshpa, goonja goonge, ashett. Woyon means men, young men. That’s the first command, to get their attention. Aja geshpa means raise your shoulders. That’s when they get up as high as they can.
