It’s July 4th, Independence Day, and here are some sounds and words to celebrate this special day. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.
Ambience, firework, bells, reading of the Declaration of Independence
“We hold these truths to be self-evident – that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Thomas Jefferson, who penned the Declaration of Independence, said, “How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy.”
Ambience: applause
“If our country is worth dying for in time of war let us resolve that it is truly worth living for in time of peace.” That was said by Hamilton Fish, former governor, senator and secretary of state.
