Listener Sounds

Music; Ambience: American Toads, Frogs Underwater, Shepherd’s flute and goat bells in Crete

JM: A while back, we invited you to send us your sounds sounds from where you live. Today we invite you to lend us your ears as we share some of the sounds that we received from listeners all over the world. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet.

JM: These trilling American Toads are a common springtime sound in the North Eastern United States. They were recorded by listener Chris Renna, who points out that the males trill in different frequency ranges, making for a rich sound texture.

JM: Listener Hakan Karlsson shared another sound of spring frogs. His are from Northwest Scania in Sweden. But he recorded his frogs… underwater.

JM: One of the most unusual submissions we received was from Australian composer Ros Bandt. She mixed together the sounds a shepherd flute and the goat bells from the herds a White Mountain region in Western Crete where she often goes to compose.

JM: To tell us about the sounds in your neck of the woods, and to hear more of Ros Bandts’ composition , check out our Facebook page. Pulse of the Planet is presented by the National Science Foundation. I’m Jim Metzner.
