Hi, I’m Jim Metzner, and this is the Pulse of the Planet, presented by the American Museum of Natural History. For the past year on our program, you’ve been hearing seasonal sounds and stories from around the world– whether it’s the Magdelena pilgrimage, in Mexico, honey hunting in Central Africa, or a tobacco auction in North Carolina. Well, now we’d like to hear your stories about the way you mark or celebrate the change of seasons, the way you track the rhythms and cycles of your year. It might be an annual neighborhood celebration, a religious or family ritual, a personal pilgrimage, or a craft or tradition you learned from your grandparents. Maybe you go ice fishing every year, or watch the Perseid Meteor shower. Maybe you fast during Ramadan, or parade during Carnaval. All we ask is that this event be important to you and that you observe it every year.
Well, over this next year, we’ll solicit and collect your responses, pick several of them and send our team of producers to cover the selected events for our series, so you could end up hearing your story on the radio.
And now, if you’d like us to tell your stories, please call our toll free number and leave a brief explanation of you seasonal event and how you observe it, along with your name and phone number. Our toll free number is 1-877-PULSE99.
Pulse of the Planet is presented by the American Museum of Natural History. Additional funding for this series has been provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities. I’m Jim Metzner.
