Heres a program from our archives. It’s been said that there are few new mythic images or symbols to inspire and instruct our generation. I’m Jim Metzner and this is the Pulse of the Planet. With the help of Oren Lyons, one of the chiefs of the Onondaga council of the six nation Iroquois Confederacy, we’d like to offer a metaphor for our time. Imagine that you’re part of a herd – a herd of buffalo.Ambience, BuffaloLyons: The herd, the human herd, you know like a herd of buffalo, is very restless now. The whole herd is restless. They’re moving, they’re not sure. The scouts on the outside see very clearly, the danger. But the interior of the herd only feel it.That’s the way the human beings are now. They’re restless and they’re uncertain, and they know something is about and it’s yet to come directly to them from the scouts out there who’s job it is to watch for the protection of the herd and to get that information back. It’s yet to reach the herd fully what that information and danger is. So I say that’s where we are right now. We are in great danger. The earth itself is going to continue to do what it’s going to do whether we’re here or not. It’s not going to be an end of the world. There’s only going to be the end of human beings. It’d probably be better for the world actually, because then it can regenerate and the green can come back again. Everything will develop again, you know, peacefully again until the human beings begin to populate like they’re going to do. One of the laws is that no single element of life can just populate endlessly, and that includes the human being. That’s what we’re doing now. We’re displacing all kinds of life all over this earth. This archival program is part of our thirtieth anniversary celebration. If you want hear more, check out our podcast.
